Artist Statement:

Approaching this dreamscape project, I was very unfamiliar with animation software and concepts altogether. It was honestly somewhat intimidating thinking about all the moving pieces I would have to execute and how I would make it appear put together and intriguing, even though I have never done anything like this. With this in mind, I decided to approach the process with that "f*** around and find out" mindset, keeping in mind that it can be very rewarding to just see what happens and have fun with it.

The story line that immediately came to mind for me was an Alice in Wonderland type exploration -- hence the title of my animation, Delaney in Wonderland -- with random objects, animals, scenery, and overall strangeness. To create a smooth switch from the 'real world' to animations, I 'tripped' and fell down a hole in the middle of the 'forest' while I was on a walk. This then transitions us into a world of animals (both fictional and real), random objects as I fall down the 'rabbit hole', and colorful scenery of fantasy lands.

After building the 'shoeboxes' in Photoshop for my animation compositions, I used After Effects for all of my animation work. I decided to use After Effects because it made more sense in my brain, in comparison with Animate. Overall, I am very happy with the way all of the movements and animations turned out in the end. This really ended up being more fun than stressful, and I had a good time just messing around to create something engaging and a little silly.

Some may describe this animation as a weird trip or some interesting fever dream, to which I can agree with. My aim for the viewer was to allow them to drift into a world of fantasy and whimsy, with no agenda other than exploring a place unfamiliar to them, finding some laughter along the way.
